ELECTRICAL AGGREGATION PROGRAM

4/28/2026

Important Notice for City of Athens Residents – Electrical Aggregation Program

Residents may be receiving a letter from Direct Energy regarding the City of Athens’ Electrical Aggregation Program. Here’s what you need to know:

What is Electrical Aggregation?
Electrical aggregation allows the City to combine (or “aggregate”) the purchasing power of residents to secure a competitive electricity supply rate on your behalf.  This was passed by referendum in 2012.

What do I need to do?
Nothing—if you wish to participate, you will be automatically enrolled in the program.

Want to opt out?
If you prefer not to participate, simply complete the opt-out card included in the mailing and return it by mail.

Billing Information
You will continue to receive your bill from Ameren, and payments will still be made directly to Ameren—this does not change.

Program Details
• Rate: $0.1276 per kWh
• Term: 14-month contract
• The program will be rebid next year to ensure continued competitive pricing

If you have questions, please contact City Hall for assistance.

Thank you for your attention!
